Ski Resorts
SkiVino has hand-picked a selection of the very best Tahoe area resorts to give you a unique choice of the finest terrain in the region. Squaw Valley USA, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Alpine Meadows, and Homewood Mountain Resort are where we choose to ski on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. If time and interest permits, we may make the short drive to visit the other classics such as Heavenly Valley Resort and Kirkwood on the South shore. Squaw Valley U.S.A.
Originally developed as the host village for the 1960 Winter Olympics, the 21st century version of Squaw is without question one of the finest resorts in Lake Tahoe if not North America. Skiing and boarding is spread across six huge mountains; with 4000 acres and 33 lifts to get you there, you'll do well to explore every option in one visit.
Northstar at Tahoe
Northstar-at-Tahoe is an all-season, family-oriented destination resort six miles from the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Northstar's two ski areas, covering 2,420 acres of downhill Terrain ranging from gentle bowls to long, steeper runs serviced by a modern network of lifts to get you up the mountain fast. Mount Pluto is the perfect place for the entire family, featuring a moderate pitch, a variety of options, regular grooming and gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe. Feeling adventurous? Spend some time at Lookout Mountain for plenty of steeps and trees. Northstar's 70 diverse trails for all levels of experience catering to 25% beginners, 50% intermediates and 25% advanced skiers.
Alpine Meadows
There is an energy at Alpine Meadows resort; a heartbeat. This mountain mesmerizes us with perfect powder which lingers days after a storm; grants moments of clarity on quiet traverses through snow covered pine trees; and converts visitors to locals with seven open bowls, gentle, top-to-bottom cruisers, and forested glades. Alpine Meadows mountain resort allows its visitors to feel unabashed joy harbored in every soul’s inner child. Alpine Meadows attracts skiers and riders who are passionate about their turns, or want to spend some quality time with their family.
Homewood Ski Resort
One of Lake Tahoe's original ski areas with a mountain that welcomes all skier/boarder levels. This is our favorite ski area on those 'wintery' days filled with snow and wind. Homewood has some of the best tree skiing in the region and the protected nature of the lifts allow for a great experience, even when the weather is less than perfect.
